The two identified policemen by Senate witness Edgar Matobato denied
any involvement in the alleged extrajudicial killings of then Davao City mayor
President Rodrigo Duterte.
Of the 16 alleged members of the Davao Death Squad (DDS) name by
Matobato, only Senior Supt. Dionisio Abude and SPO3 Arthur LascaƱas appeared
before the lawmakers. The two blatantly denied the allegations.
Per testimony of Matobato, Heinous Crime Division of the Davao
City Police comprised the DDS, carrying out a vigilante-style murders in Davao
City.
Although both Abude and LascaƱas admits to personally know
Matobato but denied anything to do with EJKs.
Retired cop Abude said he knew Matobato as the cousin of a
former colleague, Senior Insp. Eduardo Matobato.
Sen. Leila De Lima tested the credibility of Abude, who
eventually admitted being charged for various offenses.
De Lima also pointed out that Abude and colleagues were
found guilty by the the Ombudsman for failing to investigate the
muders of 720 people from year 2005 to 2008.
